[113] Ray Rodriguez: OK, hold on. OK, let's do a show of hands. OK, good. agenda's been approved. Thank you. Now go to public comment on closed session items. Mr. Merritt, did you want to approach us?
[135] SPEAKER_17: Good evening. Good evening.
[138] Ray Rodriguez: Now you realize that, excuse me, When you give your regular, when you come up as the NTA rep, you take as much time as you need. On this one, you're limited.
[152] SPEAKER_17: You just took eight seconds of my time. Eight seconds of my time. Welcome. Welcome to you. So it's been a while since I've been here, it seems like. So I just wanted to stop by and say hello, and I want to remind you that as you talk about Our little item there, 4.4, conference with the labor negotiator employee organizations, that our students in Newark deserve the very best. And how are you going to accomplish that? You're going to provide what the students need. And the number one resource the students need are qualified teachers in every classroom. We need smaller class sizes so that we can pay greater attention to our students. so that we can notice when a student didn't have breakfast, or didn't eat their lunch, or is not wearing clean clothes to school, so that we can help them with the skills which they're deficient in, or the skills that they're super good in and they want to go a little further, so that we have time for our counselors to talk to them as well. Again, the reason we're all here is for the students. That message should be paramount in every discussion you have about labor negotiator discussions. I know we're short on money. We all know we're short on money. Or maybe that's just the story we've been told. But if we really are short in money, why are we spending it on other things that aren't as important? And you'll hear more about those later. Thank you.
[259] Ray Rodriguez: OK. Thank you. We normally don't respond, but when it comes to our labor negotiator, we normally leave it to our excellent team on both sides, whether it's CSCA or NTA to work things out and hopefully come up with an agreement that we can all live with. If not be able to afford, we can live with as we move forward. Okay, anybody else? That's it? Thank you, Mr. Merritt. OK, with that, we recess to closed session. And it's 6.05. We'll be back before 7, hopefully.
